It did not find an increase in economic anxiety or mental health concerns. That matters because it directly cuts against the common claim that AI adoption uniformly worsens worker well-being.

The limit is just as important as the result. The study reflects a particular labor market, with its own protections, adoption patterns, and industrial mix. It is better read as evidence against a universal collapse narrative than as proof that AI improves work everywhere.

Why the impact is uneven across occupations

AI does not enter the labor market as one force hitting all jobs the same way. It automates routine physical tasks, but it also reaches into non-routine cognitive work that earlier automation waves often left alone. That creates a split effect: some workers are complemented by AI tools, while others are substituted out of parts of their job.

Mid-skilled and production workers appear more exposed to displacement pressure, while high-skill STEM roles more often gain from the shift.
